He always gave the best life advice to those around him, he enjoyed hanging out with friends and going to eat. At Calvary, Leah was actively involved in ministry, she taught Rainbows, participated in praise and worship team, taught the Young Adults,Īnd was the Co-Director over “Soldiers in the Field”, an outreach feeding ministry which she established. She attended Calvary Assembly of God in Stafford, Texas. In 2013, Leah and her daughter relocated to Houston, Texas, to be close, to her sister Rachel. Expressions of Praise is a drama and dance prison ministry that has reached over 50,000 inmates across the country with the message that Jesus saves. This ministry has reached thousands of youth in at-risk schools and communities from the USA to Nigeria, where it continues to thrive.įor years, Leah also served in ministry with her sister, Debbie, traveling with Expressions of Praise. Leah was also a volunteer Abstinence Educator for TAPS (Teens Against Premarital Sex), a ministry founded by her grandmother, the late Lillie Carraway. She became the Director of the Feeding Ministry at Central Assembly of God in the inner city of Cincinnati after her father “graduated” into the presence of the Lord in 1997. She was always seeking out the misfits and the lonely in society to share her beautiful smile and the love of God. The love of God was real and evident in her life. Leah not only talked the talk, but “walked the walk”. This fanned the flames of her love for broken people, the homeless, and the outcast. Leah and her sisters ministered to children at risk by teaching them the word of God through “Kings Kids Kamp”, “Steps of Righteousness”, after school programs, and the feeding ministry called “Feast and Fellowship”. She grew up in a mission, inner city church pastored by her parents. Leah’s love for children was her “calling” that reached beyond the heights of her job description. Her passion was teaching students, shaping and molding their minds, teaching them “life skills” to become productive members in society. For over 20 years, Leah worked for the school system as an educator, working with students in the Special Education program. She also attended the University of Cincinnati. Leah graduated from Withrow International Studies Academy in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1990. Leah gave her heart to the Lord at the age of 5 at First Christian Assembly of God in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 1975, at the age of three, she moved with her family to Cincinnati, Ohio, where her father, the late Pastor Ostell Shippy and mother, Phyllis Shippy, began working in the inner city for Teen Challenge, a Christian drug rehabilitation ministry. Leah was born on Februin Harlem, New York. Leah Danielle Shippy “graduated” into the presence of the Lord on Octowith her family at her side in Houston, Texas.
